British Committee for Iran Freedom Welcomes Inclusion of IRGC on Terrorist List

The British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) in a statement welcomed the new U.S. policy towards the Iranian regime and the inclusion of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) in the terrorist list, World News Network reports.

The committee called for support for the struggle of Iranian people and Resistance to establish freedom and democracy in Iran.

The British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom, in its statement signed by the co-chair of the committee, Lord Carlile, and 30 other prominent representatives of both houses of the United Kingdom from all parties, regarding the terrorist enlisting of the Revolutionary Guards, announced:

“The UK, as well as the EU, should now join this effort and designate the IRGC in support of a coherent Western strategy to push back against the Iranian regime’s malign activities in the Middle East and domestic repression. This is particularly justified in light of a reported cyber-attack by Iran on the UK Parliament that hit many MPs this summer.”

As they emphasize, the British Committee for Iran Freedom has always maintained that the decision to decouple Tehran’s egregious human rights record from the nuclear talks was a mistake.

“It is encouraging that the new U.S. policy on Iran corrects this mistake and seizes this missed opportunity to consider the nuclear deal as a part of the many major threats posed by the regime in Tehran. The UK and the EU should now work with the U.S. to implement a coherent policy on Iran that places human rights at center stage and recognizes the democratic aspirations of the Iranian people.”

According to BCFIF, such policy should begin by addressing one of the worst crimes in Iran’s modern history, the 1988 massacre of thousands of political prisoners, following the latest report of the UN Special Rapporteur on Iran transmitted to the General Assembly for further consideration, which documents the prison massacre of 1988 in detail.

“Ultimately, any policy aimed at addressing the threats posed by the regime in Tehran will fail if it does not recognize and supports Iranian alternatives to the current ruling theocracy, of which the most prominent is the Iranian opposition coalition, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). The NCRI offers a viable democratic platform for future Iran that calls for a non-nuclear Iran with separation of religion and state, gender equality and elimination of all religious and ethnic discrimination,” the statement emphasizes.

The Italian Committee of Parliamentarians and Citizens for Free Iran in a statement also welcomed the new U.S. policy towards the Iranian regime and the inclusion of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) in the terrorist list.

The committee called for support for the struggle of Iranian people and Resistance to establish freedom and democracy in Iran.

“The disapproval of the nuclear deal by the new U.S. administration indicates the necessity of ending the policy of appeasement with the regime, a policy that has taken great risks to global security and was adopted by the previous U.S. administrations and today, it is also followed by some Western governments,” the statement said.

“The human rights situation in Iran, especially in the context of widespread and arbitrary use of the death penalty, the violent crackdown on any opposition and discrimination against women and minorities, has not improved at all. In this context, particularly the U.S. placing the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the list of terrorist organizations should be welcomed. The IRGC while controlling most economic resources of the country, use them for terrorist activities and repression. This decision should also be adopted by the European Union and they should use sanctions to prevent the Iranian regime entering the global banking system,” The Italian Committee adds while pointing out the deficiencies in the nuclear agreement, emphasizes the need for unconditional inspections of the regime’s sites.
