Since late December, the streets of Iran have been filled with tens of thousands of protesters demanding an end to the clerical regime. At least 50 have been killed and 8,000 imprisoned so far, while the Regime has brought back its mercenaries and terrorist proxies from Syria, where they fought on behalf of Bashar Assad, to quell the protests.
So why is the West, as a whole, reluctant to comment on this clear abuse of human rights? Simply, they’re more concerned with preserving the Iran nuclear deal and prefer to appease the Regime rather than criticise them over human rights violations.
Appeasement is not a new thing, the world has been appeasing the Regime since 1979 despite numerous human rights violations, but it does raise questions about why European countries refuse to trade with China over human rights violations.
“Iran executes more people a year than China, with the “reformist” President Rouhani allegedly executing thousands of political prisoners since coming to power and at least four major ballistic missile tests conducted since the deal was signed,” conservative MEP David Campbell-Bannerman, Chair of the Iraq delegation of the European Parliament, wrote in The Times.
He agrees with Donald Trump’s scepticism over the nuclear deal, citing time-limited and ineffective controls that merely delay a nuclear Iran rather than prevent it, and supports the recent U.S. sanctions against the Regime, believing that Europe should follow the U.S.’s example before Iran can prove an even more malign force in the Middle East.
Indeed, the mullahs have already dangerously destabilized Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Bahrain, Gaza, and Yemen in an attempt to spread their brutal regime elsewhere. They should not be allowed to go further.
“Whatever reservations the West has about the [Saudi] regime, they were strong allies over Saddam’s Kuwait invasion and have not invaded anyone themselves. In Yemen they are supporting the official government and are doing so mainly in self-defense against intrusion into Saudi Arabia, ”Campbell-Bannerman wrote.
Further evidence shows that the Iranian Regime may even have been responsible for the fake reports about weapons of mass destruction that led to the 2003 Invasion of Iraq, in which Iran subsequently took great amounts of power. The Regime is now also entwined with North Korea in ballistic missile tests, which should worry anyone.
“The Iranian riots are reported to be in part due to dissatisfaction over heavy Iranian involvement in foreign wars [are] also an indicator that sanctions work, and that further economic pain could be enough for the good, intelligent, sophisticated, technologically-minded people of Iran to dispense with their clerical tormentors… If Mugabe can be toppled in 2017, let’s earnestly hope we can see the end of Iran’s evil Mullah Regime in early 2018,” Campbell-Bannerman wrote.
